About this artwork
Stained glass has traditionally had strong connections to religious architecture and sacredness, using light and colour to convey stories and symbolism. By presenting disposable plastic as stained glass in photography, plastic is elevated to an almost spiritual object, creating a powerful irony. The plastic, normally seen as something valuable for its practical use, is now given an unrealistic, sacred status in this visual form.

Arising from a lifelong fascination with photography, Marjon Trap employs an evocative eye and meticulous technique. She confesses to a repeated process of capturing and refining 'technically complex images' and rearranging using tweezers until the composition reveals its best self. Trap's fascination with the duality of fragility and glory is manifested in her exploration of aging flowers, challenging our notions of beauty and imperfection.
