About this artwork
In Fire Inside, linking the action of growth, and hence realisation, to human attitudes and characteristics the cut faces of the cube rotate around their diagonal axis so the cube form turns both in and out on itself. The inner colour, a vibrant red, the colour of passion or danger, is both bursting out and intensifying within. The title is a reference to the Bob Seger song.
“Fire Inside” is a smaller and more contained work following in the footsteps… of the series of large sculptures that were realised specifically for a personal exhibition entitled “Intrinsic Frequencies” held within and on the battlements of the castle of Santa Severina in Calabria, in southern Italy. A stainless-steel cube form, opened out in a fan-like manner, burnished and brushed on the outside yet coloured inside. This sculpture is mounted on a stainless steel rod held vertical in the clear acrylic base by two micro bearings permitting the work also to be observed in rotation by swivelling the rod.
