About this artwork
Mark Erickson began a group of paintings in the Fall of 2019, connected with the Color & Revision Series, 'The Argonne Paintings,' in part from the inspiration of the greens that flourish near Verdun, east of Reims in the Argonne Forest of France. This canvas, 'The Argonne' is dedicated to Mark's grandfather Frank Erickson and Uncle Ernest Julius Erickson who spent some serious time in the Argonne when they were serving with the American Expeditionary…
Force. Their time there was severe and deadly. Frank was a fortunate surviving member of the Lost Battalion, serving in Company H of the 308th Infantry. The colors that inspire these Argonne paintings are the hues of their lives. Think in abstract thought and you can imagine the trees and the foliage spread across The Argonne Forest in France. A beautiful area to this day.

« Change is inevitable and something I seek. »
American painter Mark Erickson was first inspired to paint by his grandmother, who was an artist herself. He has since exhibited in major cities across the United States. Erickson works with acrylic on canvas or wood, and sometimes adds additional collage elements. Inspired by literature, comics, and music, his artistic process is like a dance- constantly changing and full of spontaneity. Erickson's abstract expressionist works are bright, atmospheric, and humorous.
