About this artwork
This idea was brewing in my head while teaching middle school and seeing practically every female student in the school sporting something with the PINK logo on it. PINK is a subsidiary of Victoria's Secret. I've been reading that both brands are in decline but you'd never know it looking at the kids walking down our hallways. In PINK's early years Victoria's Secret launched a marketing campaign for its "Bright Young Things" underwear line directed…
at teen and pre-teen girls. The under garments had words or phrases like "call me", "feeling lucky", and "wild" written on them. I had a young teenage daughter at the time and remember thinking I wouldn't want to see her in those clothes. Eventually a change.org petition and other public criticism caused Victoria's Secret to remove the items. That was a step in the right direction, but I still think putting PINK on everything and using it to market sexuality to young girls makes you an A$$.
