About this artwork
This black & white lithograph is an early work using traditional lithograph methodology utilising traditional grease pencils & brushwork onto limestone. The image is then etched into the stone by applying gum arabic in combination with different intensities of hydrochloric acid. The stone is then inked or "rolled up" and put under pressure utilising a Victorian printing press. The image is then pressed onto hand made paper. The lithograph is executed… in an expressionistic style that distorts reality to reveal deeper truths, evoking both pain and resilience while capturing the intense struggle of the human & holy spirit.
Mark Richard Parkin is a multidisciplinary artist with classical training, whose background spans prestigious art education in Canada, Europe, and the UK, and extensive international teaching experience. His work skillfully blends traditional oil, watercolor, drawing, and printmaking techniques with bold experimentation, often incorporating organic materials and found objects in a surrealist, assemblage style. He conjures dreamlike worlds through direct brushwork, layering, and meticulous detail, creating thought-provoking juxtapositions that explore consciousness, science, and the borders of reality. His art pulses with psychological intensity, inviting viewers into worlds of existential wonder and introspective emotion.
