About this artwork
In this sculpture, I captured the tension between stability and lightness. The curved wooden forms, coated with acrylic, appear almost weightless and invite the viewer to lose themselves in their flow. They bring a dynamic energy into the space that is simultaneously calming and invigorating—like a breath that allows one to pause and restart.
Cy Twombly's series, which captures the Battle of Lepanto in its brutality, but also in the euphoria of… the European victory and the fascinating colorfulness of the Orient, is ambivalent. In my work, this is present through associations such as orange peel, the planks of a wrecked boat, or the bloody ribs of a giant.
