“Pramatka” (The Great Ancestress) is a poster from the closed series “Monkey Deities”, inspired by the earliest ancestors of humankind. We originate from East Africa. These discoveries from the 1960s are attributed to Jane Goodall. The researcher devoted her life to studying chimpanzees.
Thanks to her, we came to understand their behavior and social structure, and we also learned how the first humans may have behaved. Jane Goodall also transformed… research methods—not by distancing herself, but by building a connection with her subjects, for example by giving them names. Thus, we came to know chimpanzees such as Flo and the brave David Greybeard.
“On my feet I wore sandals, using them to scatter piles of red leaves around the shrine on the hill. There was a small cemetery with rows of monkey deities, some dressed in red capes and woolen caps.”
— Patti Smith, Year of the Monkey
