About this artwork
MIMICRY
The abstract-expressionist work MIMICRY was created over many months (2020-2021). This is due to the large format and the use of the many colors from which the artist has formed a polymorphic, sculptural color landscape. At the same time, it reflects the zeitgeist of abstract painting, which is struggling with the dissolution of the traditional color principle. With a voluminous application of paint (oil paint), Ecker creates hills and valleys,… rocks of color that slide into the depths. Ecker advances the color to the actual object and at the same time he creates a veiling of the painting in the second layer, which consists of poured paint, which gives an idea of what is hidden behind it. Above this, an illusionistic three-dimensional pictorial space is created, which consists of the overlapping of the individual color areas, as well as superimposed color areas that emerge like a relief. Ecker offers the viewer an exciting journey into the depths of his work. . .
