THERIANTHROP
With "Therianthrop" the artist Ecker opens up a fascinating insight into the origin of the modern "Homo Aestheticus". Through the symbolic body figures lined up along the canvas, he explores the concept of therianthropes, who believe that they are already their animal on the inside and thus do not need fur suits. These characters form a powerful community whose happiness is based on the bond they share through their gender. Although… the cave figures are ephemeral, the principle of a strong community remains relevant to this day. Composed of three layers of oil paint and real silver, the sculptural painting presents an impressive three-dimensional representation. The prominent edges and finishes give the viewer the feeling of a cave experience that blends past and present.

Martin Ecker is a painter and photographer based in Germany whose works have been exhibited nationally. He cites space, time, and light playing a role in almost all of his compositions. In addition, Ecker's artistic practice favors experimentation with reactive processes and approaches. He has developed his own methods using living organisms in analog photography and also employs oxidation processes of precious metals his paintings.
