About this artwork
TIME TO LEAVE
The artist staged this self-portrait during the first COVID-19 lockdown in Germany. With just one shot, Ecker manages to present a panopticon of the emotions that arose during the times of isolation, without arousing threatening feelings. What is striking is that the self-portrait exudes a sense of self-understanding, calm and balance without appearing threatening or unsettling. The artist himself describes the lockdown as a phase… of increased mindfulness in life, for which he is grateful.

« My work is dedicated to deciphering chance and intention. »
Martin Ecker is a painter and photographer based in Germany whose works have been exhibited nationally. He cites space, time, and light playing a role in almost all of his compositions. In addition, Ecker's artistic practice favors experimentation with reactive processes and approaches. He has developed his own methods using living organisms in analog photography and also employs oxidation processes of precious metals his paintings.
