About this artwork
The figure in the painting embodies the judge — a queen of law, justice, and punishment.
The crown shines with power, yet her eyes are tightly covered. Not because she refuses to see, but because the world demands it. With a finger to her lips, she calls for silence — for an inner judgment.
She holds the scales of justice as a fragile responsibility, one that can lose balance with a single movement. They are no longer a tool of power, but a burden… that cannot simply be set aside.
The blindness of guilt reflects the silent struggle between what is right and what is felt. It speaks of guilt that weighs even on the innocent — of justice that must decide even when truth remains hidden.
Martin Málek is a visual artist whose path to painting began at the Secondary School of Glassmaking in Valašské Meziříčí, where he gained both technical and aesthetic foundations. Over the years, he has developed a disciplined and highly individual painterly language built on drawing, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of the medium.
Martin Málek is: - an artist with a firmly established painterly language grounded in drawing discipline, color exploration, and precise detail. - recognizable for his signature element – a structured frame integrated directly into the canvas, creating a luxurious visual atmosphere enhanced by subtle nuances that give acrylic painting an entirely new dimension. - an author whose work leaves space for personal interpretation. Drawing from dark baroque influences, he also brings renewed attention to the male figure as a bearer of strength, aesthetics, and symbolic meaning.
