About this artwork
This canvas is part of a series of 50 small-format paintings of birds. Using a stone-polished tadelakt background, it has a particular softness to the touch that cannot be conveyed from the photograph.
Painted in oil with pigments blown onto tadelakt, it is characteristic of my style.
The two thrushes are flying in a peat bog in the north: many birds can be found in this natural wetland.
The fluorescent yellow paint used on the wings reflects… the reflections of the setting sun on the nearby hill.
The feathers of the thrushes are interpreted in a semi-abstract calligraphy which arises by pareidolia from the patterns of the blown pigments.
Martine Lapierre, trained at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA) and passionate about oil painting, also explores screen printing, sculpture, watercolor, and digital art. Her unique technique combines blown pigments on gold leaf, creating a poetic realism within the Figurative Transposition movement. She develops backgrounds inspired by pareidolia and Japanese aesthetics, populating her animal works with unknown worlds. She infuses her paintings with a profound serenity, blending wonder at nature with reflection on the fragility of biodiversity.
