About this artwork
For this painting, I was inspired by two works by two great artists I deeply admire: *Weeping Woman* painted by Picasso in 1937, and *Princesse de Broglie*, painted by Ingres between 1851 and 1853 — a meeting point between classicism and the avant-garde. The central figure evokes the aristocratic traits of the 19th century through her composure and refinement. However, the face — and partly the hands — completely break with this tradition. It is…
a true rupture, a sudden outburst of tears that tears through the cage of convention. The carefully rendered dress, rich in realistic details and folds, represents appearance, tradition, and social role, while the face expresses the most chaotic and authentic inner world.
