Discover the creation in interiors
In this oil work, I wanted to capture the tranquility of cloudy days, where diffused light envelopes the city in a veil of mystery. The muted color palette creates a harmony that invites daydreaming, while the familiar silhouettes of the buildings evoke nostalgia for a cherished place. This painting is a tribute to the discreet beauty of fleeting moments, a moment of calm in the tumult of everyday life.

Mathieu Weemaels
Belgium
« The real subject of my paintings is the contemplation of simple things to which the light of northern Belgium brings a wisp of nostalgia. »
Mathieu Weemaels is a contemporary Belgian artist who draws his inspiration from famous abstract painters such Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, and Kandinsky. Each painting begins with the application of dry pastels which the artist makes himself and which he loves for their softness and their lightness. Next, he applies oil colors onto the canvas in a complicated process of layering whereby he develops depth and the overarching composition of the work.
