About this artwork
Everyone knows those dark moments – the ashes that remain when something ends. This image is my exploration of the power inherent in that. I began on a pitch-black canvas, emptiness. It was the beginning of the end, the darkness in which everything dissolves.
But I knew it couldn't end there. With broad, bold strokes of the palette knife, I broke through the black. The vibrant red and golden yellow symbolize the heat and unbridled energy of a new… beginning. The golden flakes are the sparks rising from the ashes – the first glimmer that rekindles hope.
On the right side is the powerful white. These are not hesitant strokes, but a determined, sharp movement striving upwards. It represents ascent, rebirth, and clarity after a crisis.
This image is my personal phoenix. It tells the story of how the old fades away to make way for something stronger and brighter.
Mattheo Valeri is a self-taught painter and textile artist, working primarily in acrylics, alcohol ink, and resin, with a studio presence stretching from Germany to Uruguay. His technique, rooted in Dynamic Expressive Abstraction, combines sculptural impasto with the palette knife and the unpredictable fluidity of alcohol inks and resin, resulting in works rich in energy and tension. Through his art, he channels the sensorial force of music, emotion, and nature—inviting viewers into a raw, immediate, and deeply personal world of visual resonance.
