About this artwork
This is a painting of an Anniversary party painstakingly painted to the scale of a photographic slide and then mounted in a rectangle of plastic so that it ends up as 2 inch square. The image can be removed from the mount and is approximately 1.5 x 1 inch.
This is part of a bigger project called: "Portrait of the Artist’s Father". These are one to one scale paintings of photographic slides. The content connects to tell the story of the photographer… through his subjective interests. The impetus for this series was to re-investigate the initial intent and process of a 3000+ slide library. The paintings are placed in a grouping of non-sequiturs that develop into a portrait of my father through his interests, not his image. These small scale paintings are a loose and painterly abstraction of the initial image which reverses the intention of the photographic slides (to be projected clearly in a large format).

Matthew Schofield is an artist based in Canada whose paintings have been exhibited in England. In his artistic practice, he creates many smaller pieces that reference "little moments". However, when Schofield has made several such compositions, they turn into a series that evolve into larger works of art. He most often employs oils on canvas.
