About this artwork
I sought to capture the bold simplicity of a lighthouse against a vast, blue sky at Peggy's cove on the North American / Canadian coast. It is painted on mylar in an impasto style that shows each brush stroke and creates an active surface to the painting. It is part of an ongoing series about the randomness of inspiration and discovery.
The paintings are based loosely on the theory of situationism where human personality is viewed as a function… of response. The images of a place or thing represent unique responses to a situation or surroundings (all we are is what we see).

Matthew Schofield is an artist based in Canada whose paintings have been exhibited in England. In his artistic practice, he creates many smaller pieces that reference "little moments". However, when Schofield has made several such compositions, they turn into a series that evolve into larger works of art. He most often employs oils on canvas.
