About this artwork
The picture was taken plein air in the Forno Valley (Switzerland). When drawing, the fog only revealed parts of the opposite mountain. The artist felt as if the mountain only shows a little skin here and there. This coincided with thoughts from an older series of works in which Oppermann was concerned with the fact that we only ever see the surface of nature, animate it internally and charge it projectively. The real essence remains hidden from us.…
In the painting process itself, a strangeness arises towards the object, which perhaps corresponds most closely to the essence of a mountain.

« I paint landscapes that are less concerned with naturalistic reproduction as they are with capturing rhythms, the empty spaces in the landscape. »
It was his discovery of a surrealist exhibition in Munich at age 16 that set Oppermann on an artistic path. Inspired by mountains since childhood, he partners ‘en plein air’ painting with studio work to create unique representations of natural landscapes and people in motion.
