About this artwork
The work shows the window of a typical German suburban housing somewhere in Germany. Such an unspectacular motif as a window, and even so ugly, actually represents a non-motif. But that's exactly what interested the artist in this case. Which motive is worth to be artistically imaged and which not? If there used to be a clear hierarchy of motifs in earlier times, art history has expanded it over the centuries. At the end there was a black square.…
But even that was not the end of art history - it went on and on. The black of the window is reminiscent of this zero point of art history, but at the same time broken up by the strict dichotomy in the form of the white curtain. She and the undefined object in the window background break the abstraction and add a narrative element into the picture.
