About this artwork
A seemingly idyllic water view. However, as the title "Waterfront" suggests, on closer inspection reveals that deceptive of this harmonious landscape. The picture shows the shore of the Norwegian island Utoya. Here, the right-wing extremist Anders Breivik committed his massacre in 2011.

« As a painter and journalist, I live a schizophrenic existence: two worlds that do not seem to have much in common. In my work, I try to connect them both. »
Max Beyme is a gifted German painter whose works have been nationally exhibited since the 1990s. Valuing the timeless meaning of a painting in contrast with the demand for quick, temporary information in his work as a TV journalist, he creates engrossing figurative and abstract pieces marked by masterful precision and visceral storytelling.
