About this artwork
In this work I explored the depths of semi-surrealist abstraction, with charcoal and Indian ink as mediums. These earthy substances blend into a dreamlike journey where reality flirts with imagination. Delicate pigments mark the contours of a recontextualized world, inviting reflection and introspection. Each look is a dive into a universe where traditional perspectives are disrupted, suggesting a timeless connection between the observer and ethereal…
space.

« For me, the artist is a transmitter of perceptions. They should be able to accelerate heartbeats, soothe the spectator and create new sensations. »
Maxence Ma is a Shanghai-born, Paris-based painter who artistically explores both cities in continuous observation of and inquiry into various aspects of culture, architecture, change and truth. A self-taught artist largely formed by his father - a fellow painter with 30 years of experience - he primarily works within his family's traditional technique of utilizing animal skin as a surface. Ma's pieces have been exhibited throughout China and France.
