Works on animal skin
Materials used: the traditional technique on calfskin, with natural pigments, Indian ink etc ...
Skin is organic matter, it comes from life. I shape it using artistic techniques that give it a second life. Time then acts gradually on its original texture. In addition, each piece of skin is unique, which makes the treatment much more perilous, but on the other hand gives the creations a great singularity and the impossibility… of copying the works.
These traditional family techniques were passed on to me by my father, Ma Fuliang, an artist living in Paris for nearly 30 years.

Maxence Ma is a Shanghai-born, Paris-based painter who artistically explores both cities in continuous observation of and inquiry into various aspects of culture, architecture, change and truth. A self-taught artist largely formed by his father - a fellow painter with 30 years of experience - he primarily works within his family's traditional technique of utilizing animal skin as a surface. Ma's pieces have been exhibited throughout China and France.
