About this artwork
Elea is a Hebrew first name evoking fire, flame. She is here a female portrait sublimated by her frame painted in copper gilding and matte black. Mélane plays with her wefts to reveal this portrait that sublimates the woman. The games of shine and its frame raise it to the status of a modern icon. Elea invites us with a look into her world.
The entire work is constructed as an installation: The frame of the canvas is fixed to a wooden board painted… matt black which is itself fixed to the American box. This modus operandi brings depth and character to the production. He magnifies the work of the background and its lightness but also the realization of the portrait and its multiple black-brown contrasts.
Elea is a tribute to women, to their great strength and uniqueness.
