About this artwork
“A Dingo took my baby!” are the words that haunt the campsites in central Australia, and which now form part of contemporary Australian legend and outback tales. This legend has it that a Dingo stole and killed Azaria Chamberlain, a 9-week-old baby at Ayers Rock/Uluru (11 June – 17 August 1980). Without doubt, it was proven that the Dingo really did take the baby, but a small percentage of the public remain unconvinced. Azaria's body was never… found.
For this series, I photographed a dingo at Australia Zoo and using design software, the final image has resulted in a unique painting series which incorporates silk-screen printing and free-hand painting. The gilded Kewpie Doll is symbolic of baby Azaria and the butterfly represents freedom of her tiny soul.

Merry is based in Australia and her paintings have been widely exhibited nationally and purchased globally. Describing herself as "Australia's Andy Warhol and Queen of Kitsch", she specialises in popular culture using a range of mediums and genres. Her work is full of heart surfing PopArt kitsch, a little tongue in cheek, a little bit posh and a little bit street art. Commissions are welcome.
