About this artwork
I am always inspired by the Mediterranean sea and by the interplay of human figures with its waves and beaches. For me, people at the seaside are perfect subjects, a mixture of relaxation and activity, in natural but varied attitudes. I chose to sketch this group of beachgoers because they are enjoying a moment when the sea is at its most benign, friendly and playful. delightfully warm, clear turquoise water and the hot sun of late summer. It's a contemporary scene that draws on moments of simple happiness I've spent with my own daughter at the seashore. The relationship between the figures defines the space of the scene and at the same time suggests their family relationship.
