About this artwork
Rope is my take on purism.. an interpretation of calm, close to the influences of ZEN meditation
Rope 100 .. the title is the concept, a rope is stretched 1 x 1 meter at 1cm intervals, resulting in a broader sense of 100 running meters of rope. Preferably kept in the "color" white, which is not such in the sense of color theory, this is my form of the most puristic possibility to create a picture.
The meditative charisma resembles a ZEN garden… in Kyoto. The lines ensure an extremely calm appearance.
Why the rope? Well.. also the Japanese forms of binding, of fixing.. grants a form of rest, of passive perseverance. In Japan itself, this is often referred to as kinbaku (緊縛, "tight binding; tight shackles"). Done here on canvas. In Japan, the term "Shibari" also refers to "binding, lacing" in general and also in a figurative sense.

« For me, art is a wonderful form of dialogue, a kind of universal bridge in this unbelievably encrusted world. But I also want to leave my own footsteps behind. »
Michael Griesbeck is an experienced artist based in Germany whose paintings have been featured in numerous solo exhibitions nationally. He cites sensual curiosity as being the driving force behind his artistic practice. Creating in themed series, each of which is imbued with a central message, Griesbeck's distinctive compositions are most often translated through acrylics, oils, lacquer, and collage on canvas.
