About this artwork
Based on the poem "In dread silence reposes" by the artist. The work reflects on the treatment of migrants on the US border with Mexico and the separation of children from their parents, and their internment. The following is an extract from the poem;
"Imagine arriving refuge-worn, asylum-seeking,
instead, internment, separation, hope in justice violently, institutionally shattered,
“O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave”— the grinding… hard line."
A signed copy of the poem is provided with this work.

« My painting style is between spontaneous expression and control; between emotion and passion for freedom and immediacy while striving for balance in the nature of the subject. »
Michael Heffernan is an Irish Contemporary Painter in the American South whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, as well as in England and Ireland. His abstractions are based on early memory and place importance on memories as a source of comfort in times of uncertainty. In his artistic process, Heffernan endeavors to find a space between extemporaneous brush strokes and deliberate mark making that translates into an energetic and interesting visual narrative.
