With this approach I seek to find a balance between abstraction and representation. Something that is both tactile and minimalist. I hope to create a place where people can reflect on the play instinct as well as something more meditative.
When I think about the idea of childhood play I think about the pre-conscious self. When the ego is just starting to come… online. There is the feeling of not worrying about "perfection" because one isn't quite aware of it, or at least not in a fully conscious way. But of course that's when the desire begins so with the Ascension series I want to express the "idea" of perfection but not having to be perfect. The forms are roughed up, hand painted and collaged on. The original design is "perfect" but the execution is more human.
