About this artwork
"Aufgang" is a color field painting in which the color was applied in many layers. The title most closely alludes to sunrises, although this is not depicted in a naturalistic sense. The artist observes many and long-term color phenomena in nature, especially those in the sky. He incorporates these experiences into the lengthy painting process. As a result, a poetic expression of nature is important. The picture has a light, warm atmosphere.
