About this artwork
This painting was created on the Italian coast of Apulia, where the vastness of the sea and the unspoiled landscape profoundly inspired me. In the foreground, Mediterranean shrubs frame the scene and draw the eye out to the calm, deep blue sea. In the distance, a lone sailboat glides silently across the horizon, expressing my longing for freedom.

Michaela Schmid lives and works in the Chiemgau Alps region. A painter, she studied fine arts at the University of Regensburg, where she subsequently taught art. Schmid works primarily with acrylic and oil paints. Her sketches, often created outdoors, serve as the starting point for evocative landscapes characterized by abstracted plant forms and dynamic interplay of light and shadow. Travels to southern countries provide her with additional inspiration, allowing her to express a sense of origin, vibrancy, exoticism, and longing in her work. In this way, landscapes, plants, and even artifacts acquire a special, almost primal presence.
