About this artwork
In this work, I continue my exploration of erasure—covering layers with gesso and revealing what lies beneath through scratching, layering, and sanding. The surface uncovers traces of time, memory, and hidden depth or a destroyed language.
Dark tones dissolve into lighter, textured layers, reflecting both turbulence and quiet reflection. Pale, muted colors mirror my emotions and the struggle to keep creating through difficult times. Emerging shapes,… influenced by fragments of conflict, appear and dissolve, capturing the tension between control and disorder, permanence and transience.
In almost all my works, two forms—one on the left, one on the right—attempt to communicate and coexist, embodying the struggle for balance and connection amidst chaos.
Michail Fotopoulos a.k.a. iMiteLex, is an abstract painter and digital artist with a background in theatre. He employs a mix of acrylics, collage, gesso, and mixed media on canvas or paper in an intuitive process, developing layers through palette knives and scratching techniques. Fotopoulos' work emanates an intriguing dialogue between imperfection and hope, creating a fractured world imbued with themes of resilience and transformation, and leaving his audience to navigate the labyrinth of their own interpretations.
