About this artwork
In creating "The Survivor 01," my aim was to capture the emotional journey of Syrian children during conflict. Utilizing charcoal, chalk, and pastels on a 42x29 cm paper, the artwork features a young child with light-colored hair. The background is filled with repeated text in various languages, emphasizing the universal impact of war on children across different cultures and languages.
The child's expressive face and soft pastels contrast starkly… with the text elements, creating a visual tension that mirrors the emotional struggle faced by these young victims. This piece invites viewers to reflect on resilience and healing amidst turmoil.
