About this artwork
For this artwork, I used acrylic and charcoal to explore the layered nature of identity.
Two figures emerge, one distinct and vivid, the other dissolving like a memory.
This contrast reflects how some parts of ourselves stand in the light, while others fade into silence or remain unseen.
The painting invites contemplation on authenticity and perception, offering a quiet mirror to the complexity of being human.
Mieke Van Cauter is a storyteller with one enduring theme: the human longing for connection and the quiet weight of loneliness within contemporary society. Whether through figurative silhouettes or abstract colour, her intuitive and multilayered works always return to this same essential question. Through texture, contrast and carefully chosen colour accents she gives shape to what goes unspoken between people. Her visual language shifts in form but never in intention. Each piece is an invitation to pause, to recognise yourself, and to feel the fragile thread that holds us together.
