About this artwork
This large-scale work was created in 2012 for a special exhibition.
The surface evokes a winter landscape. Layers of white interact with the delicate fibers of handmade Japanese Rakusui paper, creating a texture that suggests traces accumulated over time.
Intertwining lines recall the presence of memory, expressing both fragility and quiet strength.
Within the overlapping layers, stillness and movement coexist. Subtle variations of white reveal… depth and an uninterrupted sense of flow, inviting contemplation of inner space.
Miho Umemura is a seasoned spatial designer turned painter, using acrylic paints and mixed media on washi paper, honed through a diverse career spanning spatial and graphic design. Umemura's creations invite viewers into a deeply personal and open-ended exploration of color as a testament to the nuanced power of the heart, evoking a quiet resonance with each individual’s personal narrative.
