REVIEW by Prof. and artist RODOLFO CECCOTTI
Trunks, twisted trees washed away by brackish and skinned by the tides, as they can be found, coming from distant lands, thrown on the beaches. Nameless trees with bare roots, trees without a verse, strong and tenacious… even in petrified death, it would be better to say torment. Because these forms that Milena paints or engraves have an internal torment that unites them and as participating spectators it is impossible not to experience an involvement and an immersion in the surreal world that they tell us.

« Between the finite and the infinite, between insinuating and hiding, between the illusion of beauty and the drama of the real, chasing the pure sublime stasis of the object, warmed but not burned by my inevitable anxieties. »
Milena Nicosia is an acclaimed painter, draftsman, and print-maker from Italy. Nicosia’s work is characterized by the integration of juxtaposing patterns and shapes made with varying gradients of density. Using pigments, pastel and engravings, she creates both monochromatic and color-oriented works united by their shared attention to dimension and textural elements.
