About this artwork
The Bamiyan valley lies on a plateau at an altitude of 2600 meters crossed, for centuries, by caravans along the silk road. Here live the Hazara, of Mongolian ethnicity, who consider themselves the descendants of the army of Genghis Khan. Persecuted by the Taliban, they opposed the destruction of the great Buddhas in 2001. by monks, open at all heights. The entire rock wall was an immense sanctuary, flowered around the two statues. Today hundreds of displaced families have occupied these caves. The photo belongs to a reportage made in Afghanistan in February 2002 by Mimmo Frassineti as a correspondent for the Republic. Digital print on canvas mounted on frame.
