About this artwork
I am trying to raise my daughter as a mindful person, but it proves to be rather difficult for myself to show an example in more challenging/emotional situations and always have the correct reaction. I discover myself again and again repeating patterns of behaviour, that are rooted in me since childhood.
As this is something that influences my way of acting strongly, I am trying to analyse the connections between my upbringing and current way of… being, while trying to make amends with my younger self. Of course this is a long and complex process, but I guess already acknowledging this is a step forward.

Portuguese painter Mirjam Siim has exhibited work in Estonia, Russia, Portugal, and the UK. She enjoys working in watercolor, because it is the medium that allows the most fluidity. Allowing for improvisation and intuition in her artistic process, Siim's works arrive naturally. She is often inspired by moments from her own life - conversations had, books read, or memories shared. Centering around female subjects, Siim's paintings are both playful and haunting, each suggesting a clear story and conveying a warmth of emotion.
