About this artwork
Two stranded sharks lie in the landscape, half in the sand, half in small patches of water left over from the tide. Their bodies are already in the process of decomposition – the skin appears torn, the flesh discolored. In the foreground is a pot from which a single flower grows. In the center of its bloom is a distinct hole, conveying a sense of vulnerability or transience.
In the background, new life is beginning: a house is being built on the… dry part of the land. But no one is to be seen – the house seems to be building itself. The contrast between decay in the foreground and new beginnings in the background creates a powerful symbolic tension between death and reconstruction, nature and technology, end and beginning.
