About this artwork
I gaze at the sea, suspended between two breaths, a cradled expanse, in this moment caught in a calm movement that never ends. The ripples on the water seem almost abstract, and yet I read in them the cold, the silence, time stretching out. In the center, the buoy floats, alone, stable, faithful to its place, anchored in the invisible like a point of attachment amidst all that moves.
Between the abstract and the real, the gaze hesitates.
The reflections… captivate me; they never cease to paint their own picture on this constantly moving sea.
This time, what remains is this quiet presence, this anchor point in a shifting world. The moorings awaiting the boat's return are immutable, almost reassuring. They don't leave, they don't waver, they don't drift. Facing them, I feel this simple desire to cling to them forever, to find, myself, a place to stay despite the waves.
Sophie Mollier-Rousseau, drawing on her background in photography and her apprenticeship with masters at the Beaux-Arts, primarily expresses herself through oil painting on canvas. She wields brushes and palette knives to create both hyperrealistic landscapes and works reflecting fleeting impressions and ephemeral feelings, brilliantly adopting a chameleon-like style. Through her paintings, she captures tranquility, the light piercing the darkness, and invites contemplation and serenity in the face of the frenzy of daily life.
