About this artwork
“Nature is not a place to visit, it is home.” – Gary Snyder
These landscapes come from memory, imagination, and the quiet spaces in between.
I don’t paint places.
I paint how they feel.
Embrace is part of my ongoing exploration of inner landscapes—places that exist somewhere between memory, nature, and imagination. The inspiration comes from the soft, calming feeling of being surrounded by nature, when the outside world and the inner world begin… to blend. Fragments of places I’ve visited, colours observed in natural environments, and emotional impressions all find their way into the composition. Through this painting, I hope viewers experience a sense of calm and grounding, as if stepping into a gentle and protective space. The title Embrace reflects that feeling of being held by the landscape—an atmosphere that invites pause, reflection, and connection.

Mona Barbu is a Romanian abstract artist whose paintings explore the relationship between observation and abstraction through colour, light, and material. Inspired by the rhythms and transformations of the natural world, she creates layered compositions that emerge through an intuitive process rather than a predetermined plan. Working primarily with acrylics, she builds textured surfaces where transparency, gesture, and light interact to evoke spaces that feel both familiar and imagined. Rather than depicting nature directly, her work invites contemplation, encouraging viewers to slow down, engage intuitively, and discover their own connections within each painting.
