About this artwork
MENTON COTE D'AZUR - miniature oil painting by Mona Edulesco.
Original textured impressionism palette knife oil painting on gallery wrapped canvas (3D canvas) 15x15x4 cm (6x6x1,5 inches).
The painting continues on the deep edges of the canvas and the 3D effect is quite impressive.
This painting depicts the colorful facades in the town of Menton on the French Riviera, a town to fall in love with instantly.
In this vibrant oil painting, I've captured… an emotional interplay of light and texture. The thick, impasto strokes give life to the bustling urban landscape, where each knife stroke conveys a sense of movement and energy. Drawing from impressionism and semi-abstract styles, I aimed to evoke the dynamism of the city while subtly hinting at its underlying order and rhythm. This artwork is a celebration of the urban spirit, offering an infusion of color and vitality to any space.
« “I have always loved to approach my urban paintings in a myriad of ways. I enjoy stylizing architectural forms using the versatility of oil paint and palette knives.” »
Mona Edulesco is a French-Romanian painter who resides in France and whose art has been featured in Parisian group exhibitions. Her preference for abstract cityscapes reflects her background in architecture and urban planning. Edulesco merges her experience in architectural concept drawings with the freedom and energy of palette knife painting into phantasmagorical textural impressionistic works. She creates watercolor pieces and uses them later as a reference for her oil paintings.
