About this artwork
When I created this work, I imagined myself hovering over an unknown city, observing it from above with amazement and vertigo. I played with extreme perspectives, tilting skyscrapers and drawing dynamic lines to give the impression of suspended flight. The cold colors - blues, grays, blacks - evoke a modern metropolis, while the scattered lights tell the story of the life that flows beneath me. I wanted to convey that sense of wonder and bewilderment…
that you feel when looking at a city from above: a tangle of structures, movement and mystery, where every street hides a story that I cannot reach.

Monica Catto, a contemporary impressionist painter with 25 years of experience, blends tradition and innovation in works that explore the dynamics between light and shadow. Rooted in family heritage, she works with oil, acrylic and cold wax, applied with brushes, spatulas and rollers to create textures that capture the viewer. Her creations go beyond landscape and portraiture, becoming emotional reflections that invite a deep awareness of urban evolution and the interiority of the human being. Among her most significant works are the "Leonardeschi", permanently exhibited at the Museo Mostra Leonardo da Vinci in Venice, and a collection of landscapes of the city of Desio, exhibited at Banca BPM in Desio. Monica Catto continues to innovate the impressionist language, creating works that speak to the heart and mind.
