About this artwork
Gesture Becoming is a wild, physical outpouring, inspired by the raw energy of gestural expressionists, de Kooning, Cecily Brown - paint pushed, pulled, and scraped in a storm of instinct. Nothing is still. The surface breathes with urgency: thick smears of blue, ochre, and bone-white wrestle for space, as if the act of painting was a fight to pin down a fleeting feeling. There are hints of bodies, collisions, escapes—forms rising, breaking apart,…
coming back together. This piece doesn’t ask to be understood. It demands to be felt, like a memory surfacing too fast, or a dream you wake up inside of. It’s raw, unfiltered becoming.

Monique J Dufour is a Canadian self-taught artist based in Spain, who has exhibited her work throughout the US, Canada, and Europe. Whilst on a trip to France in 2013, she picked up a paintbrush and never looked back, now busying herself daily with her luminous, intriguing abstract compositions. Dufour is guided by divine energy and the thrill of creativity, and seeks primarily to move others through her artistic practice.
