About this artwork
This work was my first exploration using different techniques. While in progress, a close family member passed away very suddenly and that event changed the direction of this piece. The title of “Walkabout” has a dual meaning. Firstly, in keeping with the Aboriginal meaning of an occasional interruption of regular work to go wandering and the second to convey my feeling that physical departure doesn’t necessarily mean a permanent “goodbye”.

A foundation layer was originally poured onto the canvas in 2018 providing areas of texture to this stunning piece. In early 2021 the original pour was embellished with mixed media comprising elements of decoupage, stencilling and expressive brush strokes. The end result is a re-invention of earlier techniques.
Signed to the back to allow for hanging in any orientation. Finished in archival quality UV resistant satin varnish, & ready to hang.
