About this artwork
My goal with this piece was something a bit quiet and also with energy. I have a love of water and this piece has the elements of water - in color, in marks, in the subtle references of splashing and waves, and the ebb and flow of the sea. Having lived all my life near the Atlantic Ocean and feeling the ocean breezes and hearing the sounds of the waves are the most peaceful moments that I can think of.
Monique Robidoux is a painter with a background in apparel and web design, holding a BFA from RISD and an MFA from the Academy of Art University. She employs oil, acrylics, watercolor, mixed media, and collage, blending intuitive mark-making with techniques like squeegee manipulation, textural layering, and dynamic juxtapositions of color. Her style flows between abstract expressionism and realism, often echoing organic forms and environmental themes. Her work radiates luminosity and joy, inviting viewers to experience exhilaration, depth, and a thoughtful connection to nature.
