About this artwork
When she stayed in Ireland as artist in residence Monique stayed in a little village called Ballycastle. The trees where crowded with craws. They had their own community and she was watching them a lot doing their dayly rituals. It was one big family existing from several generations. Some behaviour reminds you of how people behave. There is another painting beneath this painting. You can still see it in the bubbles with fragments of yellow flowers.…
They belong to another period of her life. For Monique it was very special to do this, to show that life goes on and time changes. It gave her a feeling of freedom. This artwork comes with an international certificate of autenticity, signed by the artist.

« For me, art is a language, a way to communicate between my inner world and what happens outside. A language that creates other probabilities. »
Monique van Stokkum is an award-winning painter from the Netherlands who has exhibited nationally as well as in Ireland and Spain. Her works concern universal human themes, which people might recognize in themselves. Van Stokkum takes photographs on her walks home and finds images that inspire her creative process, sketching out ideas before bringing them to the canvas. She uses gesso inks combined with water in her drawings, while working with oils, resins, tempera as well as beeswax in her paintings.
