About this artwork
The artist isolated the depicted woman from an old photograph inherited from his grandmother and placed her in a new context. This approach relates to culture of remembrance and historiography. A few generations later, the person can no longer be assigned. What her life, her reality looked like, can only be guessed at. Through the new contextualization, the artist draws attention to this difficulty, which also affects one's own identity and its formation.
