About this artwork
Using an intuitive approach, the artist composed several motifs from old family photos into a surreal image that is difficult to interpret. The painted people can no longer be named. More important to the artist than naming them is a comment on how history (especially the subjective family history) is transported. Uncomfortable things are actively kept secret and swept under the carpet until the proverbial oaks in the basement catch up with you again…
and old areas of stress continue to have a negative impact if they are not dealt with.

Moritz Albert is an award-winning painter and draftsman based in Germany whose works have been exhibited nationally and in Belgium. His works center around themes relating to memory, identity and its formation, as well as personal introspection. Often employing models and photographs, Albert's narrative-based figurative compositions are primarily created with oils, acrylics, and lithography techniques on canvas or wood.
