I drew the image for this tapestry series, The Law of Three with colored pencils while reading All and Everything by G. I. Gurdjieff. I started attending Gurdjieff meetings led by Mr. W. A. Nyland in 1970. Mr. Nyland had studied with Gurdjieff for over 24 years. At the Philadelphia College of Art and at the Barn our Gurdjieff Group used in Warwick New Yor, we did the craft of weaving as part of activities that were useful for getting in touch with… our higher spiritual centers. Triangle V was woven fifth of the series of 7 tapestries - this weaving is also available in 2 sizes of giclee prints. The Law of Three Series has been shown at the Art of the State Exhibit in 2002 with 5 Triangle tapestries in the configuration in the original drawings. In 2024 this tapestry, Triangle V was exhibited at show titled Myra Reichel, a 50-year woven retrospective at the Philadelphia Assembly Gally in Philadelphia, PA.
Myra Reichel, a seasoned textile and visual artist trained at the Philadelphia College of Art, creates hand-woven tapestries using intricate weaving techniques. Her Dada-inspired approach embraces randomness and intuitive choices, incorporating color, mystery, and collaborative gestures into her contemporary style. Through her works, she passionately conveys a contemplative spiritual energy, drawing the viewer into themes of struggle, resilience, and wonder that unfold line by line in vivid, tactile narratives.
