Ascend #9 is from a series of watercolors inspired by a small watercolor, a mere sketch, hanging on my wall. The image haunted me until I explored its meaning through this series of watercolors. The image feels spiritual as if aspiring to span time and place.

Nancy Hayes is an American artist whose paintings have been featured in solo and group exhibitions in the United States. For over twenty-five years her preferred medium was clay, with which she created three-dimensional lifeforms using a pattern to articulate the surface. Hayes turned to painting in order to expand her artistic vision and to not only portray distinctive organic and vibrant life-forms, but also the environment in which they inhabit.
